In these days of light and knowledge, the acquisition of proper training and education in different fields of human endeavor can hardly be over emphasized. Many strides have been taken in science and technology, social science disciplines, arts and humanities. It is an ever-growing phenomenon and needs constant efforts and endeavor to keep abreast with the changing conditions of contemporary societies. Different social sciences are interrelated; yet, law and jurisprudence play an important part in unraveling the hidden treasures of knowledge and wisdom by its threadbare reasoning and analytical approach.
The level of competitiveness and professionalism has increased manifolds. Amongst the various professions, law is the most dynamic, ranging from problems of everyday life to the most complex ones. Banking, Corporate, Taxation, Tortuous liabilities, Labor Law and Industrial relations, Contract, Mercantile Law, Equity and Muslim Personal Law all require in-depth study of problems of day to day life. There is doubtless need to study modern principles of jurisprudence and also the new fangled doctrine of necessity, in the Administration of Law. State makes it incumbent on the student to equip themselves with up-to-date knowledge of law in wider horizon and perspective.
Furthermore, the proposition of New World Order and the inherent implication of “Globalisation”, WTO (World Trade Organization), other ramification involved in it require deeper studies of comparative legal system of the present endeavour. This might well change the entire socio economic structure of the contemporary society with far reaching consequences in not too distant a future. In particular, this might entail drastic changes in Common Law and Jurisprudence. Some part of Law may have to be re-written, modified and changed. As such the students have to be geared to develop the critical faculty and hard work to inculcate the habit of understanding the norms and ramifications of Law in its application to the cases conducted in court. For the attainment of this objective and to prepare disciplined and devoted class of students, there is the obvious need to lay more emphasis on teaching of law and its importance in combating the crime and social evils rampant in society.
It would be as well to point out that Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education (DIHE) in consideration of the need of the time and with the sprit of service and dedication established the department of law beginning 2003 to prepare students for a three year LLB degree program. It is gratifying to say now that since then two batches of students have already graduated and third batch is currently in session. To accelerate further pace of progress in the field of law, to some short certificate courses in Company Law, Secretarial Practices and labour law have been added under the new programme of studies.
Further, it would be appropriate to highlight the addition of two years specialized Post Graduate course of study (LL.M.) in the current session.
This would enable the students to learn and work hard in congenial atmosphere and environment. A well-equipped library containing material related to Law has been provided to acquire proper knowledge and creative ability to be trained as a lawyer. A team of well-trained lawyers and specialist in Law and related fields of Knowledge are invited from time to time to develop student’s vision and personality.
Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah addressing the students said, “You are now required to develop a sound sense of discipline, character initiative and a solid academic background; devote yourself, wholeheartedly to your studies. Your first obligation is to yourselves, your parents and to the state”. |
