The calendar of activities and events in DIHE throughout the year kept on moving briskly. Among the more significant of these were:

The 2nd Convocation which was described thus by a reporter:
“It was an emotional moment for 216 students who had just received their degrees during the 2nd convocation in the Pearl Continental Hotel , Karachi when Mr. Jamiludin Aali’s national song ‘ Jeevay , jeevay Pakistan’ was played and the ageing poet laureate of Pakistan was helped to the stage by two attendants. All present in the Marquee rose up on their feet. Mr.Abdullah Dadahoy placed the cap on the head of the poet as he announced “The degree of the Doctor of Literature is conferred on Mr. Jamiluddin Aali.” In an instant Mr.Aali had become Doctor Jamiludin Aali. The dignitaries and invitees some 200 plus gave a standing ovation to Dr. Aali.
As the poet was leaving the venue he said, “I have seen many convocations in the Universities in Europe but this is better than what I had seen there”.

Abdul Ghani Dadabhoy Running Trophy was held in style. The first second and third winning teams in this intercollegiate bi-lingual debate were given cash awards of Rs.15,000 , Rs.10,000 and Rs.7,000 . PECHS Girls College lifted the trophy. The standard of speeches was so high that many among the audience said ‘” It was the best debate they ever attended”. The topic was, “Our survival Lies in Spiritualism rather than in Materialism.” Lt. Gen. (R) Moinuddin Haider presided.

The seminar “Journey of Pakistan, Present and Future” to mark the 68 anniversary of the passage of the Pakistan Day Resolution left nothing to be desired.. The speakers were top class, the content of their speeches was thought-provoking and a big relief from the superficial run-of-the mill thinking that one gets exposed to these days. The speakers were , Professor Husnain Kazmi , Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan, Pirzada Dr. Qasim Raza Siddiqui , Vice-Chancellor Karachi Univrsityand Mr.Qutubuddin Aziz and Dr.M.H.Qazi , Retocr Ddabhoy Institue of Higher Education

In the First Jang Forum that was held in the Auditorium of the Business School the topic that came up for discussion was “How can the Spiralling Prices of Food Items be brought with reasonable limits”. The participants were: Mr. Muzammil Aslam (Group Economist KASB), Hari Ram Lohano (Senior Economist Social Policy and Development Centre and Mr.Anis Majeed , Chairman Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association . In the question-answer session the panelist praised the quality of questions that the students put to them.

In the Second Jang Forum the topics on which the panelists dilated were: (1) Dual system of education on 14 June 2008. The proceeding started at 4.00 p.m. and ended at 6.00 p.m. The issues that were discussed:
The participants were: (1) Mr. Tariq Ikram Fedral Minister and CEO Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (2) Mr.Abdullah Dadabhoy Chairman, Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education (3) Mr.Majyd Aziz Balagamwala, President MHG Group of Companies, (4) Mr.Zubair Motiwala , Chairman , Diamond Textile Pvt. Ltd. (5) Dr.Shahid Aziz Siddiqui , Former Commissioner Karachi and Federal Secretary Communication, at present , Vice Chancellor Ziauddin Medical College(6) Mr.Abrar Qureshi, an economist and (7) Mr. Abdul Haseeb Khan President Brooks Pharmaceutical Laboratories Private Limited and Chairman , Korangi Industrial Estate Association. (8) Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Chairman APTMA.

  • Personality grooming sessions were taken up with vigor. The session had a measurable effect on the thinking of the students whose turnout improved. The main figure in these sessions was Miss Tanveer Ishrat, faculty member.
  • Workshop on Business Communication and Presentation Skills were organized by Gulfstone Training Group in collaboration with the Business school.
  • Three very successful workshops were held in which the main speakers were from UK, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Workshops on Business Continuity Management were held in EDC. Three speakers were from abroad.
  • Dr. Gabert from Germany worked for several days to prepare a report on how to improve the working of the DIHE.
  • Literary Society was launched. The work and life of Faiz Ahmad Faiz was discussed.
  • Deans Awards ( Dean of Business School) were conferred on students who excelled in disciplinary conduct, academics and extra-curricular activities
Mr. Shujaat Ali Baig visited the Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education while he was holding the office of Provincial Minister for Education, Sindh. Chairman DIHE, Mr. Abdullah Dadabhoy is presenting the memento to honor his visit.

Winter Talent Show 2007 featuring lively skits, songs and dances was produced by Miss. Ms. Khadija Mehmood, Student Councellor.
